Astakos Port
PORT DESCRIPTION

Location: Astakos is situated on the Greek mainland, N of the entrance to the Gulf of Patras, approx 135nm WNW of Athens.
General overview: The main exports are wine, currants, corn, cattle and valonia.
The port is used by ferries.
Load Line zone: Summer.

PRE ARRIVAL INFORMATION
ETA's: Initial ETA to be sent to vessel's agent on departure from last port. Additional ETA's to be sent 48, 24 and 12 hours prior to arrival to the vessel's agent. One hour prior to arrival, port authorities, pilot and agents should be contacted by VHF giving exact time of arrival.
The ETA message should include: Ship's particulars, cargo information, dangerous cargo (if any on board, with details), health condition and stowaway details (if any).
 

Communications:
 Olympia Radio ("SVA") receives distress or urgent messages and public communication (working channel). Watch frequencies VHF/FM, 2182kHz and HF/D.S.C as follows:
MF 2187.5kHz.
HF 4207.5kHz, 6312kHz, 8414.5kHz, 12577kHz, 16804.5kHz.
Heraklio, Limnos and Corfu Radio for general watch calling frequencies.
The stations work throughout 24 hours.
Inmarsat communication is possible.
VHF: Ch 16. Port Radio Station, Ch 12 and 18.
Health regulations: Pratique should be applied for on arrival and cannot be applied for by radio.
Customs and immigration: Customs allowances: Each officer and crew member is allowed 1 bottle of spirits and 1 carton of cigarettes each.
Immigration: Immigration authorities issue crew passes. For EU nationals there are no Immigration procedures. There are special regulations for nationals of countries such as Russia, Poland, Ukraine, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Yugoslavia and South American countries.
Crew being repatriated to non European countries must have a ticket which the agent must show to the authorities, agent's guarantees are requested by various authorities.
Notices of readiness: Can be tendered anytime but will only be accepted between 0800-1700hrs.

NAVICATION
Sea buoys, fairways and channels: Depth in the entrance is in the region of 18m.
Pilot: Not available.
Anchorages: Good anchorage, sheltered from all directions except SSW, from where Nisidhes Dhragoneres give partial protection, can be found in 16-20m off Astakos or in 22m mud with Astakos pier light bearing 300° x 0.3nm.
Limin Ayiou Pandeleimonos, entered approx 0.6nm NE of Glossa Pogonias, is too deep and confined for large vessels, but is available for small craft.
Tidal range and flow: Range 0.4m.
Dock density: 1025.
Weather: Prevailing winds: NW'ly.
Principal navigation aids: A light (metal framework tower on pedestal, red band) is exhibited on the head of the pier.
Charts: BA 203. Admiralty Pilot NP47.
Mooring information: Vessels can only secure stern to the pier, but those drawing less than 3.4m can secure alongside the wharf.

BERTHS AND CARGO
Names/Nos: Quays with a depth alongside of 3.7m are available.

GENERAL
Bunkers/water/stores: Bunkering: Limited quantities are available.
Medical facilities: Hospital and community clinic available.
Public holidays: Local holiday, Dec 6. Pollution: Pollution regulations are in accordance with Marpol 73/78 and National regulations. Pollution: Vessel will be fully responsible to the authorities, third parties and the terminal for all claims, costs and expenses arising therefrom.
