PORT DESCRIPTION
Location: Aspropyrgos is situated to the NE of Eleusis Bay.
General overview: Aspropyrgos is a tanker terminal operated by Hellenic Aspropyrgos SA.
There is a crude oil berth to which vessels usually berth port side to, a products berth
(starboard side to) and an LPG berth. Small essential repairs only carried out alongside.
Traffic figures: The new jetty handles approx 120 vessels and 3,000,000t annually. The
small jetty handles approx 2,400 vessels and approx 2,900,000t annually.
Max size: Largest vessel handled: 'Dagmar Maersk', 110,000dwt tanker, draft 9.45m.
PRE ARRIVAL INFORMATION
ETA’s: Initial ETA to be sent to vessel’s agent on departure from last port.
Additional ETA’s to be sent 48, 24 and 12 hours prior to arrival to the vessel’s
agent. One hour prior to arrival, port authorities, pilot and agents should be contacted
by VHF giving exact time of arrival.
The ETA message should include: Ship’s particulars, cargo information, dangerous cargo
(if any on board, with details), health condition and stowaway details (if any).

Radio: Hellas Radio (SVA), Iraklion, Limnos or Corfu Radio can be used for passing
messages at long range. The stations work throughout 24 hours.
Inmarsat communication is possible.
Health regulations: Pratique should be applied for on arrival and cannot be applied for by
radio.
Customs and immigration: Customs allowances: Each officer and crew member is allowed 1
bottle of spirits and 1 carton of cigarettes each.
Immigration: Immigration authorities issue crew passes. For EC nationals there are no
immigration procedures. There are special regulations for nationals of countries such as
Russia, Poland, Ukraine, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Yugoslavia and South American
countries.
Crew being repatriated to non European countries must have a ticket which the agent must
show to the authorities, agent’s guarantees are requested by various authorities.
Notices of readiness: Can be tendered anytime but will only be accepted between
0800-1700hrs.
NAVIGATION
Sea buoys, fairways and channels: The 2 approach channels lead to the Gulf of Eleusis, the
W entrance, Poros Megaron is dredged to 7.9m, over the bottom width of 180m and is
suitable for vessels up to 183m LOA.
The SE entrance through the Strait of Salamis, is dredged to a depth of 10.89m, over a
width of 240m.
Pilot: Compulsory for vessels over 150grt. Piraeus pilots board 1nm off the breakwater.
Agent should be cabled 72, 48 and 24 hours advising ETA. Agent informs pilot of vessel’s
arrival time. Piraeus pilots can be contacted on VHF ch 12.
Tidal range and flow: Range 0.43m.
Dock density: 1025.
Weather: Prevailing winds: WNW
VHF: Piraeus pilot station transmits throughout 24 hours on VHF ch 6, 12 and 16.
Aspropyrgos Refinery transmits on VHF ch 8.
Charts: 1085.
Restrictions: The max speed is 6kn. Both channels are buoyed and lighted but there are
some restrictions concerning night navigation in the 'SE' channel.
Tugs: A large number of tugs are available, tug escorts are compulsory during daytime, for
vessels over 120m LOA and during the night for vessels over 75m. When passing through the
Strait of Salamis, ships lines are used.
BERTHING INFORMATION
BERTHS AND CARGO
Names/Nos: A jetty extends 170m W from the shore, near the refinery, providing 2 berths
with depths of 11.80 alongside.
The E berth is equipped with 3 x 8in mechanical operating arms for crude oil and oil
products.
The W berth is equipped with 4 x 8in mechanical operating arms for oil products, vessels
should always use their gangway rigged on the middle of the vessel.
The jetty can accept vessels with a max LOA of 220m and 60,000dwt, there is a possibility
of bunkering (fuel oil and gas oil) at this jetty. A member of the refinery staff will
keep watch throughout 24 hours, near the vessel for safety and communication.
The max discharging presure is 9kg/sq m, (127psi).
There is a jetty providing 2 berths with 7.2m depth alongside, LOA 100m and 5,000dwt.
The berths are equipped with 6 in hoses for small tankers, (coasters)and shipment of
refined products.
A LPG berth situated midway between the 2 oil jetties has a depth of 7.2m and a LOA 115m,
for loading LPG and refined products.
Ballast/slop reception: All dirty ballast must be pumped ashore, the refinery has
facilities to receive up to 8,000cu m of contaminated ballast. The refinery requires 24
hours notice prior to the vessel’s arrival for use of this service.
