PORT DESCRIPTION

Location: Aliveri Bay is approx 35nm NE of Athens.
General overview: The bay is open to the SW and approx 1.25nm wide. There are facilities around the bay, the main ones being Milaki cement factory, Aliverion power station and Karavos Harbour.
Milaki cement factory is situated near the SE corner of the bay and the power station stands on the E side of the head of the bay. Karavos harbour is situated at the N head.

NAVIGATION

Anchorages: Aliveri Bay affords good anchorage in depths of 27-29m. The depths occur close inshore but the holding ground is good.
Principal navigation aids: Aliverion power station mole has a light in Lat 38°23’N, Long 024°03’E.

Milaki Cement Factory: The cement factory berth consists of a jetty projecting W from the shore at the SE corner of Aliveri Bay. The jetty is 410m in length and 40m in width. Ships up to 240m in length and 120,000dwt can berth alongside. Facilities exist for handling charcoal exports at the berth.

Aliverion Power Station: The power station berth is protected from the S by a mole extending about 2 cables WNW from the E side of the head of Aliveri Bay. There are depths of 9m along the N side of the mole. Tankers supplying oil to the power station secure stern to at 2 lighted buoys lying at the offshore end of a submarine pipeline.

Karavos Harbour: Is a small artificial harbour facing the town of Karavos. The harbour is protected by a mole extending approx 1 cable E from the W side of the head of Aliveri Bay. Town quay is suitable for small craft with a draft less than 5m.
